Orlando Bloom stars as a first year resident doctor, Martin Blake. He is outwardly calm with a courteous, unaffected manner that hides a seething mass of insecurities, ambition and homicidal tendencies. He has spent all his life looking for respect and cites it as the major reason for choosing the medical profession.
He’s trying to impress his boss, Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow), but is failing miserably. He is not on good terms with the efficient but brusque Nurse Theresa (Taraji P. Henson) either. Troy Garity plays Dan, a self assured fellow intern who gets on Blake’s nerves. Things aren’t going well until an opportunity presents itself in the form of angelic blue eyed Diane (Riley Keough), and he gets the much needed ego boost by quickly diagnosing her. Blake’s medical ethics take a spin as he gets more and more involved with her, and make no mistake; this is no dreamy romance of fairy tales. It border on psychosis as when she gets better and is discharged, he alters her medicine to get her readmitted to the hospital under his care. He keeps administering increasingly lethal doses, till she dies.
